A brief performance history of Plaid

Forever Plaid opened in New York in May of 1990 where it played at Steve McGraw's on West 72nd for nearly 2000 performances.

If you looked at an aerial view of the journey of Forever Plaid from its New York run to the current Las Vegas anniversary production, it would look like a plaid Jackson Pollock painting covering the globe in harmony and tartan.

Forever Plaid has played in every major city in the United States and Canada. Boston (4 years), Chicago (7 years), Los Angeles (3 years), Detroit (3 years), San Diego (5 years), Minneapolis (6 years) - to name just a few. Globally, Plaid has gone on two world tours, and made several extended stops in Japan, London's West End, Germany, Scandinavia and South Africa.

Forever Plaid has played the East Room at the White House (under the first Bush administration), and sang for President Clinton at both his Democratic Conventions. In London Forever Plaid gave a command performance for Queen, Elizabeth. In Japan, the show was sponsored by the Tokyo government and was honored with performances for the dignitaries of the Japanese Government.

Amassing loyal followers around the world, the Plaid fan base has been constantly growing. They all have become part of the "Frequent Plaid" program. 'Plaid Heads' (a term coined b Jay Leno) have seen the show upwards of 700 times! 'Plaid Head' celebrities include Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, Goldie Hawn, Liza Minnelli, Garry Marshall, Jason Alexander, Elaine Stritch, Rosie O'Donnell, Tommy Hilfiger, Mery Griffin, Bette Midler, Joan Baez & Robert Reich.

Television audiences have seen the Plaids on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "The Today Show," "Live with Regis & Kathie Lee", "The Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon" and just about every major variety and talk show.

They have been honored to perform for and with the legendary Perry Como.

They have sung with many celebrities and can be heard singing with Johnny Mathis on his 'Broadway Album.’

The critics have attributed its success to its heart, its hilarity, its amazing harmonies (sung live – there is no taped music). They've also praised the vocal prowess of the actors, who nightly bring perform feats of split second musical and comic timing. They've applauded its inventive staging and surprisingly witty dialogue. They've raved about its crowd pleasing score, made up of some of the most beloved ballads, swing tunes, and novelty numbers from the great American songbook Kudos has been given to Forever Plaid's rapid-fire tribute to some of the great icons of American Television and popular music (Ed Sullivan, Perry Como, Harry Belafonte, The Ames Brothers, The Four Aces, The Four Lads, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Sam Cooke, Johnny Ray, Eddie Fisher, Tony Bennett).

Whatever the reason – Forever Plaid has proven to win the approval of audiences of every demographic. Kids and their parents, grandparents and their great-grandparents have been smiling at this quirky off-beat tribute to the love of music, entertainment and the power of following your dream.

So now the Forever Plaid flagship production has made Las Vegas its new home.
